A pod of Orcas, enjoying a visit to Algarve waters

A pod of Orcas was spotted off the coast of the Algarve last week, on Friday 16th June 2017. The sighting of the 4 majestic creatures was bonus for the crew and passengers aboard the Dream Wave boat, which had left Albufeira marina in search of dolphins in the wild.

Dolphin watching is one of them most popular things to do in the Algarve. Dream Wave is a long established company offering boat trips along the coast as well as trips out to sea to spot dolphins in the wild. Last week, on one of their trips, they and the lucky passengers aboard, were treated to the spectacle of a pod of 4 Orcas swimming by their boat. Check out the video!

Orcas are members of the dolphin family, the largest members in fact. They can grow to up to 9m in lenght and weigh up to 9 tonnes and are found in all the oceans. This pod was spotted approximatley 2.5 miles off the coast of Albufeira, heading west. While not regular visitors to the area, it is not uncommun for Orcas to pass through these waters en route to their favoured feeding areas.
