Description

During the film, find out how fado was first created in 19th-century Lisbon. Evoking urban emergency themes, and singing about everyday life, fado in its first phase was associated with social contexts based on marginality and transgression. From the first decades of the 20th century, fado experienced gradual dissemination and popular consecration, and in the 1950s the internationalization of fado was consolidated above all through the singer of Amália Rodrigues. In 2011, fado was placed on the list of UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity. After the film, watch a live fado show in the Church of Mercy, a remarkable monument in the city of Faro.
