Salt Nativity Scene in Castro Marim

An amazing Nativity Scene sculptured from salt! The scene features some 4500 figures and is created from more than 6 tons of local salt, famous for its excellent quality. A unique and beautiful nativity scene that showcases local craftsmanship and produce.

This year the nativity scene incorporates additional local craftsmanship, featuring woven canes by local artisans. The salt, which is a major contributor to the economy, culture and identity of Castro Marim, is beautifully worked to create the magical scene.
