The Algarve coastline is spectacularly beautiful - and one of the best ways to appreciate it is from the sea. Board the Ophelia catamaran for a relaxing cruise that is a feast for your eyes. Visit the spectacular Benagil cave as well as the many other amazing rock caverns along the coast.
The Ophelia is a large and comfortable catamaran. Very stable in the water, the Ophelia has an inner lounge, shaded decks and sundecks. You can board the Ophelia (departures from Portimão) and enjoy trips along the coast, to see the famous caves and grottoes and maybe even spot some dolphins. Or opt for a speedy sea experience aboard the Explorer which zips along the coast to the famous Benagil Cave before heading out to sea to search for dolphins in the wild.
Ophelia Beach BBQ Cruise
The Ophelia Coastal Cruise (6 hours) leaves from Portimão and heads out to sea, passing the pretty fishing village of Ferragudo and the historic castle which overlooks the beach. Towards the West you can see the long golden sands of Praia da Rocha and the contrasting colours of the white sands of Praia do Vau against the red cliffs. To the East you pass the resort of Carvoeiro and sail by the amazing rock formations at Algar Seco. This is a fantasy landscape of caves, grottoes and sea arches that nature has sculpted from the cliffs over thousands of years. The water is wonderfully clear here and with the bright Algarve sunshine filtered through the holes and fissures in the rocks and reflecting off the water, the effect is magical. Small boats take you from the Ophelia through the caves, the Benagil cave among them - an experience you are unlikely to forget. Whatever you do, make sure you have your camera!
A great BBQ lunch with open bar is served on a secluded beach giving you time to enjoy a swim and snorkeling or simply some sunbathing on the warm sands.
Bonus - enjoy some paddle boarding (SUP) too!
Benagil Cave cruise
For a shorter cruise join the Benagil Grottoes cruise (2 hours). Aboard the speedy Explorer, you get to discover the breath-taking coastline from Portimão to Benagil. There are several absolutley gorgeous caves along the way and the highlight of the trip is a chance to see the famous Benagil Cave. Along the way see some of the pristine, secluded beaches and enjoy the sun and scenery.
Look for dolphins in the wild during this 2 hour cruise. Head out to sea on the sturdy speed boats and look for dolphins playing in the ocean. They seem to enjoy swimming by the boats, giving you the perfect photo. A magical experience.
You can opt for a combination trip that includes both dolphin watching and a visit to the Benagil cave. A super 2-in-1 trip to tick off your bucket list!
The Ophelia also runs some great summer boat parties, with DJ sessions or live music. Fun day and night outings for a perfect summer party.
If you're planning an Algarve wedding or looking for a venue for a different type of party, the Ophelia is available for private hire, with catering options, live music and DJ sessions.
Ophelia boat trips are operated by Portitours, an experienced tour and activity company offering a range of land and sea fun, from off-road Jeep Safaris to visits to Algarve wineries. You can explore the Algarve all year round with Portitours.
