Known for its fabulous beaches and super all-year-round climate, it is not surprising that the Algarve is a top destination for beach volleyball. Each year, hundreds of volleyball players come to Portimão for beach volleyball camps, which take place on the golden sands of Praia da Rocha. Organized by Beach Travels, the camps have welcomed thousands of players from over 28 countries since their inception in 2012. In 2024, the Beach Travels VolleyBall Camp runs from 4th to 11th May.

Praia da Rocha is miles of fine golden sands, backed by ochre cliffs. Next to the busy town of Portimão, it is the perfect setting for active volleyball camps, where people are looking for a good time as well as top class coaching and games.

Why the Algarve and Praia da Rocha?
Beach Volleyball is a hugely popular sport around the world. An Olympic sport since 1996, it is athletic, competitive, and you play it at everybody’s favourite spot – the beach! And when it comes to beaches, the Algarve is ahead of the pack and a serial winner of best beach destination awards. There are excellent air links between Faro airport in the  Algarve and much of Europe, making travel to the area easy and possible all year round. And of course, over 300 days of sunshine per year mean that it is almost always good beach volleyball weather.

Praia da Rocha is one of the most popular beaches in the Algarve. It’s huge - over 200m wide -  with massive spaces for multiple courts. There are plenty of beach bars and restaurants right next to the playing areas for drinks, snacks and after-game fun. Pretty much everything is within walking distance of the beach volleyball camps. And if you do want to explore further afield, getting around the Algarve is easy. Car hire is a great option for discovering the Algarve, and if you book early you can find some great Algarve car hire deals.

Portimão, which is adjacent to Praia da Rocha, is a modern residential town, with plenty of great eateries to discover, a fascinating museum, and offers plenty of interesting things to do and see. You can go off-road exploring into the countryside, hike some cliff-top trails, or take to the seas and explore the amazing caves and Algarve coastline.

Beach Volleyball Camps
Beach Travels has been running Beach Volleyball camps in Praia da Rocha since 2012. Founded in Sweden by a group of beach volleyball fanatics that includes World Gold medal holders, national team coaches and International Volleyball Hall of Famers, the aim is to develop the sport and enable more people to enjoy the fun and wow-factor of playing a great game in some spectacular locations.

The Beach Travels camps are all about making you a better player, no matter your current level. The camps are open to all levels of players, from all around the world – those who want to learn, to improve and to play the best they can.

The camps are open to all levels, including beginners with absolutely no experience at all. Training groups are organized by playing level so everyone gets the most out of the super coaching, and has fun while learning, as well as making new friends.



Praia da Rocha Beach Volleyball Camp Programme
The camps include daily training with Beach Travels' excellent coaches. There are exhibition games to enjoy as well as fun tournament games to play. There’s a beach lounge and chill-out space, as well as the multiple (up to 32) courts that you are free to use.

In 2022, the exhibition matches brought some of the very best players in the world to Praia da Rocha. The reigning Olympic and World champions and four times European champions from Norway, Anders Mol and Christian Sörum played the young Swedish superstars David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig, who just a couple of months later came to be the new European champions in beachvolley.

One of the great advantages of participating in a beach volleyball camp in the Algarve is all the fabulous bonus fun. Feel like a yoga session on the beach? No problem. Want to show off your moves at a pool party and sunset session? Easy, just sashay over to the pool club. Fancy some super fresh, healthy and delicious food? Sample some of the local seafood. The options are almost endless.

The camps are great for solo travellers, for couples, groups and families too (there are child-minding services available).
