Lagos Beaches

Glourious golden sands, stunning rocks and secluded coves

The town of Lagos is blessed with many wonderful beaches. You can choose the wide ample sands of Meia Praia to the east of Lagos or the secluded coves dotted along the cliffs to the west of the town. Following are some brief pointers to help you find your way.

Praia da Batata – right by the Fort Ponta da Banderia near to the town centre. Although a small beach it is very popular. Parking can be a challenge due to this beach’s central location but access onto the sand is easy. There are fantastic views across the bay to Alvor, Praia da Rocha and Carvoeiro.

Praia do Pinhão – located a little further along the main avenue, opposite the fire station, this is another small beach, surrounded by cliffs and great rock formations. Access by trails leading down the cliffs to the sea.

Praia Dona Ana – probably the best know beach in the Lagos area. Always very popular with locals and visitors alike, the beach is reached by following the steps and trails down from the cliff tops. The water is wonderfully clear, there are plenty of rock pools and strange formations to explore and a choice of sun beds and loungers to relax on.

Praia do Camilo, near Ponta de Piedade – a small beach at the bottom of ochre cliffs, surrounded by some of natures amazing sculptures and grottoes. The clear waters are perfect for snorkelling. There is a great little restaurant perched on the cliffs above the beach with fantastic views over Lagos and the bay across to Alvor.

Porto Mós – a wide open beach following the curve of the bay to the west of the Ponta de Piedade. This beach is very popular with families due to its easy access, facilities and calm waters. A great beach for sundowners and amazing sunsets.
