The Ria Formosa is one of Portugal’s most important wetlands for aquatic birds. This tour cruises through the natural park by boat, allowing you to spot birds such as the White Stork, Little Egret, Spoonbill, and various waders including the Whimbrel, Turnstone, and Grey Plover.

The journey continues toward the park’s islands, passing oyster and clam farms—an integral part of the local economy. Here you may see the black-tailed godwit, oystercatcher, sandwich tern, and occasionally the greater flamingo during winter months.

Near the lagoon’s meeting point with the sea, the boat stops at a quiet beach (weather permitting) for a short break. The return trip offers additional birdwatching opportunities while cruising calmly through the park channels back to Faro.
