This year, Vagabondo Restaurant in Alvor celebrates 25 years of serving fabulous food! A favourite among regular visitors to the area, and constantly gaining new fans, Vagabondo has an excellent reputation for delicious food, served well, in a gorgeous setting.

It was in 1992 that Vagabondo first opened it's doors in a renovated building on one of Alvor's narrow streets that sweep down to the river and harbour. At the time, there were only a handful of restaurants on the street and a couple of bars. The river front as it is today didn't exist, but the locals still enjoyed sitting in the shade by the fish market, watching the tide come and go, shaking their heads at the folly of foreigners who parked their cars by the harbour at low tide, only to return to a semi submerged car at high tide.

Today, the river front has a small marina where you can hop on a boat trip along the coast and the street where Vagabondo is located is the main thoroughfare in the resort, now pedestrianised and bustling with throngs of visitors, almost every doorway an entry to a restaurant, bar or shop. Other venues have come and gone over the years, but Vagabondo has stood the test of time and is still one of the most popular restaurants in Alvor.

Opened by four scandanavians, including two Swedish brothers (remember Hellman's restaurant by the harbour?), Vagabondo aimed to serve quality international cuisine along with some delicious dishes straight from the grill for that portuguese flavour. They got it right from the very begining and have been getting it right ever since. The open air charcoal grill still stands in one corner of the garden patio and is an integral part of Vagabondo. The large mixed meat kebabs that Vagabondo is famous for are prepared and grilled here and then served at your table on a suspended metal skewer. The steaks are also a favourite item on the menu - you can count on generous cuts and quality meat. And if you're feeling really hungry, try the BBQ platter - carnivorous delight. There is always a choice of freshly grilled fish and there are vegetarian options on the menu too.

First time visitors to Vagabondo will enjoy the surprise of being led through the restaurant, past the kitchens and out into a secret garden patio, dotted with orange, lemon and olive trees. It's romantic, a little magic and where everyone wants to eat on those balmy summer evenings. The main dining room is ideal for people watching as the panoramic windows open onto the street where people stroll by. Open all year round, Vagabondo is one of the most welcoming winter restaurants in the area, thanks to the large open log fire that burns in the dining room.

Over the years there have been changes at Vagabondo with some additions to the menu to move with the times. There have been changes in the colour palette too but the essence of Vagabondo has remained unchanged. It's consistent high quality in food and service has kept generations of Alvor visitors returning and captivates new regulars with each mouthful.

Vagabondo Restaurant is open all year round, for dinner only.
Reservations are advised particularly during the summer months.
