Description
Board the “Algarvian Queen” catamaran in Faro and cruise through the sheltered waters of the Ria Formosa lagoon. Along the route, visit the barrier islands of Barreta, Culatra, and Armona, observing diverse birdlife and unique landscapes.
The journey begins with a briefing from the crew before sailing towards Barreta Island, also called “Desert Island,” located at the western edge of the natural park. Next, the tour passes Farol Village on Culatra Island, known for its 1851-built lighthouse marking Cape Saint Mary, Portugal’s southernmost point.
While cruising past Culatra, learn about the fishing village of Hangares and its long history. You’ll also see oyster and clam farms, with opportunities to spot fishermen working during low tide.
The first stop is the “Old Inlet,” a scenic natural inlet between Culatra and Armona Islands. Here, you can swim, snorkel, or walk along the sandy beach.
At midday, the tour pauses at a Culatra village where you can explore the area or enjoy a quick bite. Local restaurants offer warm meal options, and the crew can provide recommendations.
The return journey follows the lagoon’s channels, allowing more time to relax aboard the spacious and comfortable catamaran.
