Description
Departing from Faro, the tour crosses Ria Formosa Natural Park toward the Atlantic Ocean. Pass the Barrier Islands of Deserta and Culatra and the surrounding marshlands as you cruise toward the coastline.
Once at sea, you will look for marine wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and porpoises. Whale season runs from February to May, while dolphins are present year-round. Birds like gannets and shearwaters may be seen overhead. Marine species including ocean sunfish, blue sharks, hammerhead sharks, and sea turtles are also possible sightings.
Two marine biologists accompany each tour to help locate species and provide educational commentary about the local fauna and environment. After spotting a dolphin group, you will have 30 minutes of free observation time to watch and ask questions. Guides explain how scientific research on dolphin populations is conducted.
The tour returns through Ria Formosa back to Faro after the observation period.
