Esparto is a coarse grass native to Portugal, Spain and North Africa and it has been used for centuries to create baskets, ropes, mats and more. Its strength, flexibility, and rustic charm make it the perfect material for handcrafted creations that stand the test of time.
During this workshop, local artisans Manuela and Maria José will guide you through the traditional techniques used to weave the grass, sharing stories and wisdom. Working with your hands is an opportunity to slow down, focusing only on what is happening at that moment and to celebrate each achievement as you craft your own unique, woven creation.
This is a truly immersive experience, where each strand you weave ties you to the artisans before you, making you part of a living tradition that has been unfolding for centuries.
