Legende van de Amandelbloesems
Lang geleden, tijdens de Moorse periode in de Algarve, regeerde een jonge kalief in Silves. Hij werd verliefd op een prinses uit het noorden, genaamd Gilda. Verliefd en gelukkig trouwden ze. Na verloop van tijd werd Gilda echter verdrietig en verlangde naar haar geboorteland. De kalief raadpleegde tovenaars en wijzen van over de hele wereld om een manier te vinden om vreugde te brengen aan Gilda, maar zonder succes.... Tot op een dag het voorstel werd gedaan om duizenden amandelbomen in het hele koninkrijk te planten. Toen de amandelbomen in bloei stonden, vielen hun delicate witte bloemen op de grond en bedekten het land met een mooi wit deken, waardoor Gilda's verlangen naar de besneeuwde landschappen van haar geboorteland werd vervuld en weer vreugde bracht in haar leven.
