Fonte de Pedra - Algarve
Those in the know, know Fonte de Pedra. This very Portuguese restaurant is tucked away in the countryside behind Portimão and Penina golf course and serves very good international and algarvian dishes in a charmingly rustic setting.
The restaurant is set in lush gardens, just across from the famous Neolithic ruins at Alcalar, where you can visit the ancient burial chambers. The restaurant is surrounded by bougainvillea and palm trees, creating a very peaceful setting. Inside, Fonte de Pedra is quite large, with angled ceilings, arches and a long bar. The walls are decorated with traditional artefacts and old farm implements.
The menu at Fonte de Pedra offers a very good selection of both international and Algarvian dishes such as Algarvian Fish Soup, Pork Medallions with figs, grilled Wild Boar and Pepper Steak. Special mention for the local desserts – honey and almond cake and almond tart.
Fonte de Pedra serves both lunch and dinner. On Friday and Sunday nights there is live music and it is not unknown for diners to take to the dance floor……Fonte de Pedra has a loyal following among the local and resident population and also is a regular port of call for golfers playing the nearby Penina and Morgado courses.
