Apopular beach resort with plenty of fun and entertainment for all the family.
Quarteira is located just 26km from Faro Airport and is home to approx. 25,000 residents. The area, which was once just a tiny fishing village like so many others along the coast, dates back to Roman times. Since the 1960âs it has just grown and grown and it became a city in 1999 and today it is one of the major tourist centers of the Algarve.
Despite the huge development down through the years, where high rise apartments blocks have swamped the old part of the town, Quarteira has maintained a loyal following of tourists who return year after year and is particularly popular with Portuguese holiday makers.
One of Quarteiraâs greatest assets is the beautifully palm tree lined promenade which runs parallel to the long sandy beach. This Avenida Infante Sagres, known locally as the "Marginal" is the ideal place to go for a relaxing stroll and offers a varied selection of cafes and bars. Quarteira offers a huge range of restaurants where the emphasis is on fresh fish, shell fish and cataplanas!
Right next door to Quarteira is the famous resort of Vilamoura. If you enjoy walking you can take a stroll along the beach from Quarteira into Vilamoura. It only takes a few minutes!
It is the ideal location for golfers given itâs proximity to several championship golf courses.
Every Wednesday there is a big gypsy market which attracts locals and tourists from all parts of the Algarve in search of a bargain!!
