Praia da Rocha Beach
The beach at Praia da Rocha is a wonderfully long, hugely wide expanse of fine white sand. The beach is backed by red cliffs that almost glow in the crimson light of the algarvian sunsets.
There are concession areas where you can hire out sunbeds and shades for the day or you can opt to stay right by the water’s edge and enjoy the sea breeze. There are numerous bars and restaurants nestled at the base of the cliffs where you can eat and drink all day long. In fact you could have breakfast and lunch on the beach, shower off using the beach facilities, stay for dinner and even party into the early hours of the morning at a chic beach club!
A broad wooden boardwalk runs the length of the beach giving access to the many restaurants and bars there. This is a great place for people watching and in the cooler months it’s where you will find visitors and locals alike enjoying their daily run, cycle or walk. There are plenty of water sports available – banana boats, jet skis and pedaloes. The beach often hosts beach football and volleyball games. From Praia da Rocha beach you can walk through a tunnel in the cliffs to the west and onto the neighbouring beaches – Praia do Vau and Praia do Alemão.
There are several points of access from Praia da Rocha’s main avenue, above the beach. Many of the access points involve a lot of steps (approximately 70). Ok going down, not so good coming back up. But there are two easier access points. One is in front of the Hotel Jupiter on the main avenue. Here you have a car park and sloped access to the centre of the beach. There other beach level access is by the marina at Praia da Rocha.
