The Ria Formosa is one of the most beautiful areas of the Algarve. Quite different to the cliffs and caves of the western Algarve, the Ria Formosa is calm waters, meandering waterways, sandbanks and islets with fascinating flora and fauna, and a series of barrier islands where traditional fishing communities live and some of the most pristine beaches in Europe are to be found.

A protected area that extends for 170km2, from Quinta do Lago to Tavira, the Ria Formosa natural park can be seen from the air as you come into land at Faro airport.

The best way to really discover its beauty is to take a boat trip along the waterways, visiting some of the islands and basking in the sunshine as you glide through the translucent waters.

Sunset Sailing offers a private full day (7 hours) boat trip around the Ria Formosa.
Departing from Faro, you sail on the modern and comfortable catamaran along the water channels. Your crew, Carla and Armanda are great hosts, welcoming and hospitable, as well as local and very knowledgeable about the area and its traditions, and the wildlife and birdlife you can see here.

As this is a private boat tour - just for you and your group - the itinerary can be flexible. You can come ashore at an island beach if you wish, swim in the warm waters, or head out from the lagoons of the Ria to the open sea to look for dolphins in the wild, or discover the islands of Armona, Culatra or Ilha Deserta - the Deserted Island.

You can opt to enjoy lunch at one of the island restaurants or make the most of your time on board by bringing your own lunch on board.

The Sunset Sailing catamaran is modern and comfortable, very stable in the water. There are sunny decks, including the always popular net-deck, for the best views, plus a shaded deck and indoor lounge.

The catamaran is fully equipped with WCs, shower area, wi-fi, kitchenette, micro-wave, fridge etc.
