About the artist
Françoise Devroede has been creating high warp tapestries for over thirty years. She is one of very few weaver-designers, those artists who not only conceive but also carry out their own projects, in order to better translate their own sensitivity into their work, ensuring a greater freedom of expression. Françoise Devroede belongs to the new generation of artists who perpetuate this traditional art that made the reputation of Flanders in the Middle Ages.
Françoise Devroede was student of Marce Truyens, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Her works have been exhibited repeatedly in Belgium, Portugal and the USA. All her tapestries are unique works of art. Classics in their materials and weaving technique, they are resolutely contemporary in their design. The expansion of some of their details transfigures objects of everyday life and makes them definitely not figurative. The play of shapes, curves, colors and reflections transcends the objective reality, loading it with mystery.
